What are your thoughts on whether Suffolk has one or more unitary Councils?
Consultation on Suffolk Local Government Reorganisation Now Open
The Government has launched a public consultation on proposals that could reshape how local services are delivered across Suffolk.
Why now?
This follows the Government's White Paper Power and Partnerships: Foundations for Growth, which aims to create stronger and more efficient local governance.
In September 2025, two proposals were submitted for a new unitary model for Suffolk. These would simplify current structures, reduce duplication, and better support residents and businesses.
What's being consulted on?
The Government is asking residents, businesses and stakeholders for views on the submitted proposals.
Responses will be assessed against key criteria, including:
- Service improvement
- Value for money
- Local identity
- Accountability
This feedback will help inform the Government's final decision.
Have your say
Local government affects daily life—from transport and housing to education and social care.
This consultation is a chance to help shape how these services are organised in the future. Every response counts.
