East Suffolk Council- Local Plan Call for Sites

East Suffolk Local Plan Review – Call for Sites Now Open

East Suffolk Council is now formally starting work on its next Local Plan- a strategic document which will guide development across our district for the next 20 years. This isn't to be confused with Framlingham's review of our Neighbourhood Plan which also called for Sites earlier this year.

What's going on?
East Suffolk Council is inviting submissions of land for potential future development. This is sometimes known as a "call for sites". The key details are:

  • Submissions are invited for a range of uses including housing (sites of at least 5 homes), commercial, and other uses.
  • If you would like to suggest a site for inclusion in the new Local Plan you must submit the details by 5 pm on Friday 9 January 2026.

How can you submit a potential site?
If you or anyone you know has a piece of land that might be suitable for a future development allocation, here's how to do it:

  1. Visit East Suffolk Council's website (search for "Local Plans – East Suffolk" and "Call for Sites").
  2. Download the site-submission form (if required) or use the online portal.
  3. Fill in the required information about the site: location, size, ownership status, proposed use, and any comments you want to make about how the site could contribute (for example to housing supply, employment, infrastructure).
  4. Submit your form by 5 pm on 9 January 2026.
  5. If you are uncertain, it's worth contacting East Suffolk's Planning Policy Team to confirm how best to proceed.

What should you bear in mind?

  • Submitting a site does not automatically mean it will be allocated; the District Council will assess suitability, availability and deliverability.
  • The land remains in whatever ownership status it currently has — you aren't surrendering it or committing to develop it merely by making a submission.
  • For local residents and community groups, this is an important moment to be aware of how change may be shaped. The more information submitted (and the stronger the case for how a site fits with local or district-wide strategy), the more considered the outcome is likely to be. Our revised Neighbourhood Plan will be used in conjunction with this Local Plan.
