Notification of Intended Works Memorial Rose Garden at the Cemetery, Fore Street

We would like to inform you about our planned works in the Memorial Rose Garden. Over time, some of the rose plants have developed disease or been eaten by muntjac deer and the beds are full of weeds.

We will be weeding the beds and removing all dead and dying roses as well as installing new muntjac proof fencing and cutting back the hedges. We will also re-stain the woodwork and refill the path.

However, the rear of the left-hand bed is difficult to access due to the narrow grass path. To address this, we are proposing narrowing the bed slightly, which will involve:

  • Carefully moving some soil and, where necessary, handling the ashes to the rear of this bed with the utmost sensitivity. There are no plans to move ashes in the other three beds, and an exhumation licence will be required before any ashes on the left-hand bed are moved.
  • Bringing forward the rear boarder of the garden and repositioning the memorial plaques around the edges of the beds to improve the appearance.

We will then continue to maintain the area, rebuild the beds with soil improver and replant next season with healthy plants and bulbs in a formal planting scheme.

We are also looking at alternative ways of creating a memory wall or tree for people in the future.

We do not have contact details for all relatives but wanted to give advance notice of these works, especially if there are any special mementos that are on your friend or relative's memorial as these will have to be removed.

We will ensure these works are carried out as respectfully as possible.

If you would like to discuss the plans, have concerns or require further information, please contact us via email towncouncil@framlingham.com or telephone 01728 720183

We appreciate your understanding as we carry out these improvements to help make the garden a beautiful and fitting memorial space once again.
